Hello there fellow person.
Here is my first tutorial, so pardon the mess. We are doing this to see how successful and popular (or unpopular) this blog would be.
To create this braid, I would suggest familiarising yourself with the stitch/weave of the 5-strand braid, which I can do a tutorial for if there is a high enough demand/request, or when I have time on my hands. Nevertheless, feel free to attempt this hairstyle even if you are new to the whole concept of 5-strand braid!
So here is a written step by step tutorial for the braid. It will be written in detail, with some pictures included for visual aid.
Just as a note, in this picture our model has had her hair up in a twisted bun overnight (with her hair freshly washed and still damp prior to twisting)
1. Brush your hair well, or at least so that there are little to no tangles (if you do happen to use braids or twists to curl/wave your hair and don't want to brush out the curls, I suggest you just get a wide comb and just brush down the top bit of the hair)
2.Grab a small section of hair at the top of your head, near the forehead. It should be about 2-3 inches wide, depending on your preferences.
3.Split it into five equal sections, holding three strands on one hand and 2 strands on the other. Now, begin the stitch of the braid.
4. Do 2 regular 5 strand Dutch braid stitches *for the worded version of the stitch, refer to the end of the post*
5. Once you have done the regular stitches, going under and over from the side closest to the head, then, instead of doing the same for the bottom, drop the furthest bottom strand and pick up a new strand right next to the dropped one, just like you would with a normal waterfall braid, then stitch as normal (under and over).
*this is how it would look like when you drop the bottom strand*
7. To end it, do not drop your bottom strand like you would in the previous stitches, but continue and braid all the 5 strands like you normally would all the way till the end, then tie it up with an elastic band.
Aaaaaand voila!
*As shown in the picture, this style was created and ended with a braided flower. There are many alternatives to this, like having a diagonal waterfall cascade or start a braid from both sides, meeting in the middle.*
Additional:
Dutch 5 strand braid stitch.
1. Start with 5 equally sectioned strands of hair.
2. Bring the strand that is furthest right under the next strand, then over the next strand. Hold it in place.
3.Moving on to the farthest left strand, repeat the same process (under, then over).
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3. You have successfully made the first stitch!
5. Just like any normal Dutch braid, you add in more hair to the out-most strands and create the look you desire!
B/N: I really hope this was clear enough, but if it's not -- no fear! As aforementioned, just email us at contacttheinterlaced@gmail.com or just post a comment below and tell us if you would like a pictorial or video tutorial, and what you thought about the tutorial!
